    GRAND SUCCESS OF IFFTAC-09
    International Festival of Films on Tribal Art & Culture – 2009

    IIMC in collaboration with Vanya, an undertaking of Tribal Welfare Department of  Government of Madhya Pradesh organized successfully the three-day long Second “International Festival of Films on Tribal Art & Culture” at Ravindra Bhavan, Shaheed Bhavan and Bharat Bhavan at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh which began on 19th June  and concluded on 21 June 09. This was first such festival in the world to understand culture of tribes of other parts of the world and to showcase Indian culture to the world community. Ifftac-09 witnessed more than 65 films from 40 countries.

    Inauguration
    The festival was inaugurated on 19th June at Ravindra Bhavan with great festivity and fanfare by Kantilal Bhuriya, Cabinet MinisterGovt of India and Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. It was presided by Laxmikant Sharma, Minister of Culture, Govt of MP in august presence of Dr Hynek Kmonicek, His Excellency Ambassador of Czech Republic, Jagannath Singh, Minister of Tribal Welfare, Govt of MP, Harishankar Khatik, State Minister, Govt of MP. Many film personalities present during the occasion were Ashutosh Rana, Actor, Rameshwari Film and TV actress, Jagmohan Mundhara Director, Sadhu Mehar, Actor and Vijayendra Ghatge, TV & Film actor. Awards were distributed to the best films in presence of His Excellency Ambassador of Kazakhstan Dr Kalrat UmarovPrakash Jha, film producer-director and Nitin Mawani film-producer.

    Participating Countries
    The festival showcased films from all over the world, including India on subjects related to tribal art & culture. Following 40 countries vied to win 6 awards: Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Siberia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, USA, Zimbabwe.

    Jury
    The jury was headed by Basu Chatterjee (most well-known filmmakers of India) including R Balashankar (Editor of “Organizer Weekly”), Uday Kumar Varma (Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.), Ashok Jailkhani (Deputy Director General, Doordarshan), Ajit Rai (Journalist), N.K. Vyas (NFDC, A Govt. of India Enterprise), Rajendra Gupta (Renowned Television and Theatre Actor), Vijaya Chowk (Central Board of Film Certification) and Uday Tara Nayar (Head, Sahara Entertainment and former editor Screen).

    One of the leading journalist said that it was an unforgettable experience for him to view films based on the development of the tribes. He said that such films tells the people that despite increasing modernity in the world culture, tribes in many countries even in India have not lost their ages old traditions which separates them with others in the globe. Noted film director Basu Chatterjee appreciated the work done by the organizers and encouraged the concept of such a film festival where people get to know the tribal culture of different regions. He said “A film festival like this is beyond expectation”. He also congratulated the organizers for successfully organizing an event like this.

    Organizers
    Under the stewardship of Sriram Tiwari as the Festival Director and Devendra Khandelwal, a leading film-maker and Chairman, Organizing Committee, ifftac-09 showcased and recognized authentic, artistic, effective and informative films based on the theme of tribal cultures, lifestyles, arts, religion, traditions, mythology, history, food, costumes, jewellery, sports and various aspects associated with tribal communities from various regions of the world.

    Tribal Dances
    ifftac-09 provided opportunity to film fraternity to enter their films & film enthusiasts to witness a cultural extravaganza of tribals through films and got them motivated to join the movement of tribal welfare being witnessed all over the globe. Every day screenings were followed by songs and dances by more than 1000 tribal artistes. Thousands of viewers enjoyed the screenings as well as tribal performances.

    All the media including Print, Electronic and Web media were fully utilized to provide ample publicity to the festival. For the print media, four bulletins and a catalogue were publised starting from the first day to the concluding day of the festival. The daily issue of press release and other activities at the festival site was provided through the four bulletins. The catalogue provided the list of the tribal films showcased in the festival. The electronic media provided coverage to the inaugural ceremony and concluding ceremony apart from the daily coverage. Also more than 100 pages of web content were uploaded through the Internet. The official website of the International Festival of Films on Tribal, Art and Culture (IFFTAC), www.ifftac.org was continuously checked and updated with regular Information about the Festival. The participants of the film festival downloaded the registration forms from the festival website and communicated through emails.
