Government of Madhya Pradesh in association with iiMC (Indian Infotainment Media Corporation, Mumbai) organized “International Festival of Films on Tribal Art & Culture” at Indore Madhya Pradesh on 1, 2 & 3 Feb,08. This was first such festival in the world to understand culture of tribes of other parts of the world and to showcase Indian culture to the world community.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh headed the board of patrons of ifftac-2008. Other patrons included Kunwar Vijay Shah, Minister of Tribal Affairs, Ranjana Baghel, Minister of State for Tribal welfare, & O.P. Rawat, Principal Secretary, ST & SC Welfare Deptt,. Advisory board of IFFTAC-08 was headed by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Former Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Govt of India.
Under the stewardship of Shriram Tiwari as the Festival director and Devendra Khandelwal, Chairman, Organizing committee, IFFTAC-2008 showcased and recognized authentic, artistic, effective and informative films on Tribal Art & Culture. Films based on the theme of Tribal culture, art, religion, architecture, philosophy, traditions, mythology, history, life-style, food, costumes, jewellery, sports and various aspects associated with them, were shown in this 3 day festival, starting from 1st Feb 2008 which culminated on 3rd Feb 2008. Thousands thronged to see the films screened in three venues. Historical Gandhi hall was renovated to suit the International standard and was converted into a main-screening venue by experts.
Around 247 entries were received from all over the world, including India on subjects related to tribal art & culture. A preliminary jury comprising of legendary script writer Salim Khan alongwith film-critic J.P.Choksey shortlisted the films for competition. Total 69 films from 40 countries were screened : Angola, Azerbaijan, Australia, Bosnia, Cameroon, China, Ethiopia, Equador, France, Germany, Herzegovina, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan , Lithuania , Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco,Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Srilanka, Switzerland, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, Uzbekistan & Zimbabwe
IFFTAC-08 was inaugurated by legendary actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha. Chief Guest at the Inaugural ceremony was Actor & Film-maker Randhir Kapoor. It was presided by Kailash Vijaywargiya, Minister of PWD, Govt of MP in august presence of HE Andlay, Ambassador of Ethiopia, Vijay Shah, Minister of Tribal Affairs, Govt of MP & Gautam Buddha Mukherjee, Secretary, Tribal Affairs, Govt of India. Many film personalities from India and abroad were present during the occasion, including SV Ramanathan, Former Presedent, South India Film Chamber of Commerce.
The jury headed by Ramesh Talwar declared the results on the third day, i.e 3rd Feb 08 in a glittering ceremony attended by luminaries from various walks of life. Film stars Raghubir Yadav, Raza Murad, Vijayendra Ghatge, Poonam Dasgupta , Kunwar Vijay Shah, Minister, Tribal Affairs, Govt of MP, Laxman singh Gaud, Minister, Education, Govt of MP and Tarun Vijay, editor, Panchjanya added glamour to the closing ceremony. The following awards were given by Mr.Carlos A. Yrigoyen, Ambassador of Peru:
Informative exhibitions organized during IFFTAC-08 on Tribal Paintings, Photos, Sculptures & Instruments were visited by thousands. Also free workshops on writing, lyrics writing and composing film & TV Music were organized by leading experts from Indian cinema. Mr Rajesh Dube, Leading script writer of Television, Mr. Ibrahin “Ashka”, lyric writer of several super-hit films and Mr. Siddharth Kashyap, upcoming film-composer conducted these workshops.
Every day screenings were followed by cultural performances by tribal artistes, singers and dancers. More than 600 tribal performers from entire Madhya Pradesh participated and performed in the festival.
IFFTAC-08 provided opportunity to film fraternity & film enthusiasts to witness a cultural extravaganza of short films and documentaries and got them motivated to join in the film revolution being witnessed all over the globe.

All the media including Print, Electronic and Web media were fully utilized to provide ample publicity to the festival. For the print media, four bulletins and a catalogue were publised starting from the first day to the concluding day of the festival. The daily issue of press release and other activities at the festival site was provided through the four bulletins. The catalogue provided the list of the tribal films showcased in the festival. The electronic media provided coverage to the inaugural ceremony and concluding ceremony apart from the daily coverage. Also more than 100 pages of web content were uploaded through the Internet. The official website of the International Festival of Films on Tribal, Art and Culture (IFFTAC), www.ifftac.org was continuously checked and updated with regular Information about the Festival. The participants of the film festival downloaded the registration forms from the festival website and communicated through emails.
